the drag and drop functionality

Postby savil on Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:15 pm

Hi

We'd like to tap into the data that gets dragged into the iFrame. is there any way to do this? (for eg. some function which captures the data)

Thanks,
S

Hi,
Drag and drop isn't currently supported.
Actually it was disabled in MSIE in 0.1 and 0.2.x branches.
I can't tell you atm if it will be possible in the near future to catch the data and manipulate it before it's pasted.

I'm looking to make the Jquery UI drag and drop functions work with WYMeditor. I realize the WYMeditor uses iframes, so that makes it difficult.

Is there support for dragging and dropping text into the WYMeditor with Jquery?

Hi joshkraemer and welcome to the WYMeditor forum!

Just dropping text into the editor should be working fine, without the need for JavaScript.

The use of JS-based drag and drop solutions will be a lot easier in future versions of WYMeditor, as we're most likely moving away from the use of ifreames. In previous versions there was a need to use iframes for Firefox (Mozilla) support, but as of Firefox version 3.0 and up this is no longer necessary.

Cheers! ;)

Thanks for the reply. It's nice to know that the iframes will eventually be removed. However, is there any current workaround to getting Jquery UI drag and drop to work with this editor (or iframes in general)?

It's possible. Take a look at TypeRoom, they somehow manage to do this. I did a quick Google search, and came up with the folowing:

There's no code, but it's a start.
