Wymeditor and encoding issues

Postby rostr on Thu Aug 30, 2007 3:46 pm

Does wymeditor force a specific character encoding anywhere in the code? I've had some difficulty editing UTF-8 data (having garbage characters appended to the symbols).

I've since switched back to ISO-8859-1, and everything seems to be okay. Just wonder if the problem might have been that wymeditor was forcing ISO-8859-1.

Hmm, are you sure your web server is configured to send files as UTF-8?
What exactly did you switched back to ISO-8859-1?

Well, i'm just now getting the hang of all this encoding stuff. But I changed apache to serve pages as UTF-8, changed the meta tag at the top of my sites, and changed the encoding settings on my tables in mysql.

After that ® symbols would work, but they would have a random garbage character before them, and it would add a garbage symbol every time I saved the form data.

Afterwards, I switched everything back to ISO-8859-1, and everything works just fine.

I'll see if I can reproduce it again, but there are so many variables here it makes it very hard to isolate.

OK, but are your files UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1 encoded?

Well, that's a good question. What do you mean by "files"? If you mean the file that contains the input form, then I made sure that it matched the encoding of the served pages. (Shouldn't be an issue though because all of my php files contain ascii only text.)

OK. Do you have a test page that I can check out?
