volunteer?

Postby paperscissors on Tue Mar 11, 2008 5:01 pm

hey folks, i was wondering if i might be able to volunteer myself to help out on this project. i'm more of a php guy than anything, but, if you needed or wanted tools for image insertion/upload/management, etc, i'd be more than happy to contribute.

Great!

We plan to work on an API for the files management.
Please feel free to share here your ideas/code/suggestions.

More PHP integration examples would be great, too.
Patches are welcome on the Trac!

Thanks.

I am currently working on a general purpose file uploading utility which i intend on releasing BSD or MIT, currently supports images, but im hoping to go much further with it shortly. The concept is to have a strategy based plugin system on the backend for different storage requirements.

A partial demo is here http://tmpvar.com/bfm/www/. Keep in mind this is a very early implementation.

hey, that's really nice right there! i had been working on something similar this week, but no where as nice, with the async upload and whatnot.

@paperscissors thank you

I will be continuing development this coming weekend, if anyone would like to assist me with any aspect of the development of this project let me know. I greatly appreciate the feedback and hopefully will have more to show next week as soon as I get some time.

I've also been working on a file manager (including a php back-end). Just as tmpvars manager, it's an early implementation - essential functionality is stil missing.

Anyway, heres a url if anyone is interested:

I've been pretty busy lately, but found a bit of time to update my implementation of the file manager. you can find it http://www.blerby.com/project/filemanager/demo/. It still lacks certain key features, but is coming along nicely.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

looks great. if it were me i'd probably keep it simple, and just go straight to the image insertion bit, that's probably the key part. i would imagine other file formats would be secondary and not as much of a focus of the featureset, no?

it probably also wouldn't be bad to make it more apparent on the image overstate what will happen when you click on the image.

Yeah, I'm not too concerned about anything but images for the time being, but the php back end is 'ready' to accept other types of files.

The hover state is a great idea, I haven't gotten around to theming (hence the nastyness) and still need to refactor some of the javascript to handle some of the less obvious bugs and redundant functionality.

Thank you for the suggestions!

I've currently put the project on hold due to other obligations, however.. you can get the source at http://svn.blerby.com/project/FileManager

There will be work on this in the future, just not sure when I'll have time to get around to it! With that said, feel free to use/abuse the code.
