special characters when saving in IE7

Hi,

When i am trying to save the data edited by WYMeditor, it just adding some special characters to the saved data in IE6 and IE7.But the same is working fine in Mozilla.Can any body help me on this?

Hi sumanth and welcome to the WYMeditor form!

I'm guessing that you're having some kind of encoding issues. If you're not telling the browser what charset to use (using the content-type header/meta tag) IE will start guessing, which sometimes gets quite ugly. Firefox will just fall back to the default.

If you are sending content-type headers, make sure you're using UTF-8 as your charset.

Thank you so much for the reply. I have added the metatag(<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />), but still same special characters are added while saving the data in IE6 and IE7.

Are you sending any other headers from the server? Some server side scripting languages like PHP might do that some times, depending on the server configuration. Such headers will override what you're specifying in your meta tags.

If you cant figure things out, do you think you could set up a test page? That would make it a lot easier for us to help you!

- If the headers are overridden by server,then how it's working for Mozilla.So does this happens only for IE?

-Do you need any other information other than test page.Actually we are using mod_perl enabled apache
server for our site.

Hey,

Even i tried by installing apache on my local machine. I created a page where i can submit my contents to the server , after submitting again go back to the previous page(the page before submitting) and tried to submit,then its adding the special characters(or try to load some content on wymeditor by default and add some text to it), I think this is a bug with the WYMeditor. I am really wondering why till now no once faced this issue!!

Hi again, sorry for the late reply!

If you cant set up a test page, then try to install the Web Developer Toolbar addon for Firefox and check the response headers (Information > View Response Headers). If your server sends any content-encoding headers (which it should) you will see them there.
