porting wymeditor to other js libraries

Postby harald on Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:14 am

hello,

i would like to know, if anybody out there has ever tried to port wymeditor to something else then jquery -- if it's indeed possible and how much work this would be. why am i asking this?

we are using an own javascript library for our company and i would like to integrate wymeditor -- as much as i like wymeditor, as much i dislike to integrate another full-featured javascript library, jquery.

and i would like to know, what that would mean for us regarding the license of wymeditor and the license of our own javascript library.

thanks very much!

Hello Harald!
Both jQuery and WYMeditor are MIT licensed, so you can do pretty much what you want to. Although I would advise against porting WYMeditor to another framework, the amount of work needed to do that should not be underestimated. Also, jQuery is rather light weight - what you maybe could do is to strip it down even further (it's already only 24KB, Minified and Gzipped) but I don't think you would gain much by doing that either.

Anyways, great to hear that you like the editor.
Cheers! ;)
