One idea for a structured document is to use docbook. This would enable highly structured content for e.g. a simple cms, and hence database. From the docbook there are ways to deliver html, rtf, pdf, or whatever. What about a native module for docbook?

Well, WYMeditor is a web-based XHTML editor.
I guess you can generate DocBook documents from XHTML ones, with the help of XSLT.

FYI, there's a Perl utility which converts XHTML to DocBook.
